African Shades is a beautiful B&B located in the picturesque town of Swellendam, one of South Africa’s best kept secrets. In addition to a lushes garden, private poolside lounge area and breath-taking scenery, the B&B is walking distance from numerous historic buildings, restaurants and gift shops. As the third oldest town in South Africa, historic Swelledam is being discovered as a destination and not just a stopover. Situated at the foot of the Langeberg Mountains with the Dostdy Museum, nature reserves, berry farms and National Parks, Swellendam is an attraction of its own. African Shades is also, most conveniently, located exactly between Cape Town and the Garden Route, making it the perfect resting place for tourists and travellers moving along the N2. Come visit African Shades and experience the B&B and town for yourself. The accommodation was modern and comfortable and the breakfast in the morning was delicious. The room was clean and comfortable, the pool area was nice to relax and to cool down. Little touches to the property make it a great place to stay. Swellendam as such makes a fantastic stop on the way to Garden Route. Breakfast was good, with cereal, toast, eggs with bacon etc. African Shades has a fully equipped restaurant and breakfast lounge at its disposal. Shaded under the large oak trees and overlooking the Langeberg mountains, our restaurant is the ideal spot for a hearty breakfast. We realize that this might be a tad too late for our corporate guests, but can be done earlier on prior arrangement. With plenty of garden & outside porch seating on offer for those long hot summer afternoons and a roaring fireplace inside for those chilly winter days, guest will always have a place to relax and enjoy our breath taking view. The Restaurant offers conference facilities and can be booked for private events. The facilities are clean, comfortable and constantly updated to provide guests with all that they need. We can’t wait for our next visit to African Shades and can truly recommend this B&B to all travelling guests.
