Owners Desmond and Wilma van Jaarsveld, formerly from Windhoek, Namibia, are known for their warm hospitality and attention to detail. Wilma was born in Delft, the Netherlands and emigrated with her family to South Africa in the 70's. Desmond has grown up in Walvis Bay, Namibia and is an avid Harley Davidson rider and self-taught cook. Daughter Andrea is a student at the University of Stellenbosch and son Raymond is a learner at High School Swellendam. It is all about family values, good friends and enjoying life. We grow most of our herbs in the lush garden at De Oude Pastorie, using compost made from all suitable organic kitchen waste products. Our hens are fed fruit and vegetables from our kitchen and garden, ensuring the freshest eggs which are collected daily. Our lemon, lime and granadilla (passion fruit) trees provide quality fruit. Our bathroom products are sourced from Rain in Swellendam who create handmade bath & body products and hand crafted homeware using natural ingredients with African origins. Rain products are responsibly handmade with love and care for our customers, craftspeople and the environment. Rain amenity products are for the hospitality customer who cares about quality ingredients and what they put on their skin and hair; the environmental impact of plastic packaging; the Fair Trade status of the supplier and their job-creation policies; the suppliers’ animal protection policies and giving back to the community. In addition: to eliminate plastic PET bottles we have introduced re-useable glass bottles that are sterilized after each use and filled with filtered water, available in all our rooms' mini-fridges. This was an amazing find; this lovingly restored old pastor’s house presents huge comfortable rooms with lovely open areas to meet other guests. Our room, with its private balcony is big enough for four king sized beds and to still have an elegant party. Loved the atmosphere and the company of cat and dog!
