Going from Cape Town over the mountains you enter the Overberg region, an agricultural area bordered by wild coasts and rough mountains. In this region, at the beginning of the Garden Route, the charming town of Swellendam is located. Here at the top of its main road you enter the core of the most historic of the Western Cape towns: The Drostdy Museum Complex, once the seat of an independent republic. Roosje’s 12 rooms, all decorated with antique furnishings, are located in a lush garden with beautiful views over the Langeberg Mountains; our pool offers refreshment on hot summer days. All rooms and public areas have free internet access and prices include a very hearty breakfast. Apart from being in the historic and tourist center of town, all major shops, lunch eateries and even Marloth nature reserve with its hiking trails in the mountains, are on walking distance. Bontebok National Park is 5km from Roosje, and at 45 minutes driving you’ll find the beautiful de Hoop nature reserve, with its whales in the winter and its remote desolated beaches in the summer. The main building of Roosje van de Kaap dates from around 1780 and was once a part of the Drostdy; here you’ll find our award winning restaurant where a candlelight a' la carte dinner can be enjoyed.
