We have done all three and have very much enjoyed your generous hospitality in your beautiful home and garden. We are so thrilled to showcase our newest contribution to Swellendam’s family accommodation. Months of planning, hard work (and all the other joys that come with construction) have paid off and have turned what was once just an empty shell into a beautiful and spacious family suite. As per usual, or by now it’s become somewhat of a Schoone Oordt tradition really, Richard took on the renovation of the empty storage space together with our resident handymen, Cuthbert and Charlie. Although there is something new on the breakfast menu every morning we like to deck out our buffet with a few regulars like fruits, breads and cereals. Although we now have Chef Obie at the head of things in the kitchen we still use Alison’s fabulous granola recipe. Still in its baby shoes the Silver Mountain Music Festival celebrates music and nature to the benefit of the community and conservation projects of the Grootvadersbosch Conservancy. The aim of the Grootvadersbosch Conservancy is the protection of the indigenous ecosystems of the Grootvadersbosch Valley. Their conservancy projects include alien clearing, fire management, trail building and environmental education to name a few. We’re very excited to finally introduce our not-so-new head chef, who is taking our Conservatory Restaurant to one of the best restaurants, Swellendam. This Bloemfontein native had big shoes to fill as Chef Wander’s successor but with his international experience and enthusiasm for food we knew he’d be up for the task. He remembers how he was always in awe of his brothers skillful cooking for their family even though it was with simple ingredients like potatoes, beef and pap.
